Transformation & Modernization:

With today's accelerating business cycles, applications that are barely 2 years old are becoming legacy systems. The legacy systems pose significant barrier to your ability to become agile enterprise and thereby compete effectively. Modernization also lowers cost and positions your company to better take advantage of new technologies in support of new business requirements.

Advent Global offers mainly two types of services to leverage your current legacy IT investments, for better resiliency and adaptability:

Migration:

Involves moving applications to newer technologies, typically accomplished through combination of automated code conversion tools and partial new development and re-factoring. The end result of migration is that legacy systems will be retired while their new 'avatars' will be available on newer technologies of choice. Advent Global's approach to migration is to combine the benefits of speedier cycle times (through automated translation tools) and superior native architecture of newer systems (through re-factoring and re-interfacing).

When to Migrate?

  • when your business-centric IT systems are on technologies that are near end-of-life
  • when finding and retaining qualified engineers on legacy systems is hard and expensive
  • when maintenance and enhancement of these applications is expensive, difficult, and time-consuming

    Application Re-Engineering
    New/improved business functionality and operation
    Reverse engineering, POC, partial or full redevelopment, warranty support, maintenance support

    Technology Migration
    Language/code migration, OS migration, database migration, user interface migration
    4GL/3GL to Java or .NET, with re-factoring to conform to desired architecture

    Support & Maintenance services

    Modernization:

    Involves extracting specific business functionality and making it available using certain standards, so that it could be used by other applications or newer processes. In this technique, legacy systems largely remain untouched. Renewed legacy systems and newly developed functionality can then be integrated to work together in new ways through Business Process Management (BPM) on the strength of SOA architecture foundation. It is also possible to selectively and progressively replace functionality of the legacy systems with newer systems or interfaces.

    When to Modernize?

  • When you are embarking on SOA roadmap, and you are looking to extract specific functionality from the legacy systems
  • When legacy systems support bulk of business processes and any major changes to the same is ill advised
  • When the goal is not about replacing your legacy technology; its about end-to-end integration and consolidation over time

    Modernization Service Offerings

    Strategy & Assessment: We work with internal client resources to come up with a robust document providing a clear roadmap and advice. Our strategic services also extend to organizations that have attempted modernization initiatives in some form or shape, but are frustrated for the lack of tangible benefits. We also undertake demo or a quick Proof-of-Concept implementations, as pa part of this exercise. Typically, engagement for Strategy Services can span from few days to few weeks.

    Discovery and enablement: Includes identifying set of services (functionality) from existing IT systems - using both top-down and bottom-up approaches. Program management, Services discovery and enablement, New services development, Governance, Process orchestration and composite applications, and implementation of infrastructure (including registry).

    Support & Maintenance services: Production support including infrastructure services management around SOA and solution upgrades.

    Center of Excellence

    Our BPM Center of Excellence (CoE) has been instituted to help our clients embrace the latest BPM technologies and SOA best practices to optimize their BPM applications and application modernization initiatives. Typically formed as a joint team from Advent Global and the customer organization, the team establishes best practices, process modeling, architecture guidelines, technology frameworks and best practices, and knowledge portal. The CoE aims to increase efficiency and productivity of modernization projects by:
    • Process modeling standardization
    • Services governance framework
    • Architecture and coding standardization
    • Creating reusable components
    • Developing best practices
    • Leveraging existing SOA and BPM technologies
    • Leveraging existing IT assets
